“And so this is Christmas”

I am sure many of us have heard of the famous poem, “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” I can quote from memory sections of the poem, I think many people can. Well, Clement Clarke Moore (1779-1863) wrote the poem “Twas the Night Before Christmas,” also known as, “A Visit From St. Nicolas,” in 1822.

A copy of the poem was sent to a newspaper. They agreed to publish it if the author remained anonymous, which he did. It first appeared in print on December 12, 1823.

In 1844 Mr. Moore stepped forward and claimed ownership when his poem was published in a book.
