Greetings one and all! Occasionally, as I enjoy a movie, I notice a character in the story who reads! That’s right, there is a reader in the movie. So, this week, Top Ten Tuesday, is a list of readers in film. These aren’t in any particular order. 🙂
Who doesn’t love Catherine (Felicity Jones) in “Northanger Abbey?” She is such a lovable character. I think ~if memory serves me~ she is reading, “Udolpho.”
Frodo Baggins! (Elijah Wood) in “The Fellowship of the Ring” I don’t know what he’s reading, but I’m sure he’s enjoying it. Although, his thoughts might be on Bilbo’s party.
Elizabeth Bennett! (Kiera Knightley) “Pride and Prejudice” (2005) “She must improve her mind with extensive reading.”
Nim! Abigail Breslin in “Nim’s Island.” YAY! “I must be the hero of my own life story” ~Alex Rover, Gerard Butler.
Lucy Pevensie (Georgie Henley). “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.”
“She went up to the desk and laid her hand on the book; her fingers tingled when she touched it as if it were full of electricity. She tried to open it but couldn’t at first; this, however, was only because it was fastened by two leaden clasps, and when she had undone these it opened easily enough. And what a book it was!” C. S. Lewis, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Thomas Lefroy (James McAvoy) and Jane (Anne Hathaway) are discussing a book Jane recommended of the woods where she lives, “Natural History,” in “Becoming Jane.”
Col. Brandon (Alan Rickman) is reading to Marianne Dashwood (Kate Winslet) in, “Sense and Sensibility.”
Emma Woodhouse (Romola Garai) and Mr. Knightley (Jonny Lee Miller) in “Emma” (2009). Emma doesn’t seem to be much of a reader, but she did make a list of 101 titles to read. Mr. Knightley brought her this book, which has a sketch of Box Hill.
Anne Shirley (Megan Follows), “Anne of Green Gables.” Miss Stacy (Marilyn Lightstone) caught Anne reading a novel during class time.
Miss Beatrix Potter (Rene Zellweger). “Miss Potter.” I like this movie, very much. “There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never know where they’ll take you.” ~Beatrix Potter
