As my neighbor was known say, never in all my born days!

What a hoot! 🙂

Where do I begin? Mortimer Brewster (Cary Grant) and Elaine Harper (Priscilla Lane) are newlyweds. The happy couple are so newly wed, the ink hasn’t dried on the license!  Just as they are ready to leave on their honeymoon, Mortimer learns his beloved aunts are murderers! That’s right, these delicate, kindly, sweet, endearing aunts are homicidal! And! Believe it or not, crazy becomes crazier in this madcap comedy!

lol. In my humble opinion, Cary Grant does his best work in comedy. I realize he is not a comedian, however, he is amazing in comedies. In this movie, he falls over a chair ~ bum sticking up! His facial expressions are rich, to say the least. He teases his aunts. His character is . . . well, I don’t really have a word for it. 🙂  And! I love the setting for the film. The sweet, little ladies live by a cemetery. On the other side of the cemetery is the preacher’s home which also happens to be the home of his bride. It’s Halloween night. Autumn is in the air, leaves are scattered on the ground.

And! To top it off, there is a dollop of creepy in this film!

CHARGE!!!

Have you seen Arsenic and Old Lace? I’d like to hear from you. 🙂

  1. One of my all-time favorites! Yes, Grant’s expressive face is perfect; he’s the perfect foil, the dashing hero caught in something completely out of character. Thanks for the smile that comes simply thinking about it. 🙂
