Without further ado ~

This is the second time I’ve read, “Peril at End House,” by Agatha Christie. I’ve read many of her mysteries.  🙂 In this murder mystery, someone is trying to kill Nick Buckley, the lady who owns End House. Poirot and his friend Hastings are enjoying some rest and relaxation in St. Loo when they become embroiled in this puzzling mystery.

“I struggled to an upright position, feeling very still and uncomfortable. Sleeping in a chair is a proceeding not to be recommended at my time in life. Yet one thing at least resulted from it – – I awoke not in that pleasant state of lazy somnolence but with a mind and brain as active as when I fell asleep.”

Cover Art ~ 6th Edition

I love winter scenes. *sigh* “Married By Christmas,” has such a pretty, wintry cover art. I love the hooded cape the lady is wearing! It’s lovely. There’s a snug cabin in the background. It needs smoke coming out of the chimney ~ it would be perfect.

Karen Kirst is a new author to me.

 

“Sons of Blackbird Mountain” has a lovely misty, beautiful cover art. This book is on my TBR list. I read “The Lady and the Lionheart,” by Joanne Bischof and I loved it, so I am looking forward to reading this book.

Oh my word!!! This film is so very good!!! 

A shout out to all the actors and actresses!

After the death of her aunt, a famous opera singer, Paula (Ingrid Bergman) travels to Italy to study music. While she is in Italy, she falls in love with Gregory (Charles Boyer). Shortly after they are wed, they return to the home of her late aunt in London. Paula inherited the home when her aunt passed away. Soon after the newlyweds move into their home, strange things start happening . . . very strange. The gas lights go dim and then become bright, footsteps walking across an upper level floor, items coming up missing, etc. Paula is struggling to understand what is happening and maintain her sanity. Her husband Gregory is no help, not at all.

If you haven’t seen Gaslight and you like psychological suspense/thriller films, really good suspense, I highly recommend this movie. It’s definitely on my top ten favorite classic movies! 

“Murder at the Vicarage” by Agatha Christie

Good morning. I’m not quite awake yet. *yawn* I rolled out of bed, sleepwalked down the stairs and into the kitchen, where I made myself a cup of loose leaf tea. It’s time to rise and shine!  🙂

As many of you know, one of my goals for 2017 is to reread books I’ve read and enjoyed in the past. In January, I decided to reread twelve (12) books by Agatha Christie, one per month. I’m happy to say, I’m a little ahead of schedule, Murder at the Vicarage, is number eleven (11)! I have enjoyed this mystery in the past, however, as I started reading it my mind was blank! I didn’t remember it at all. It was like reading a new mystery. According to my notes, I did read the book a few years ago. Mmmm.

This mystery is so much fun! The magistrate, Colonel Protheroe, is found dead in the vicarage and in the vicar’s study! Unpleasant to say the least! He’s been shot and it’s definitely not suicide. This magistrate was not a pleasant man, so any number of people could have killed him. Miss Marple is on the case and will have it solved in no time.

The vicar tells the story, from beginning to end, and he gives the reader an honest account in an entertaining way. I love the vicar. I was chuckling off and on throughout the story. And his wife Griselda! She is a hoot! They have a nephew who is really into this ~solving mystery stuff~ and of course there is a village full of gossips ~ entertaining gossips I might add! What more could a person want in a good mystery??? *ahem* And, although Murder at the Vicarage is not my favorite mystery by this author, it is certainly an entertaining and enjoyable read. 4**** stars!

“To Be Where You Are,” is the newest book in the Mitford series by Jan Karon. I’ve read them all and I love all of them. Every time I read the Mitford books I feel like I’ve come home. Mmmm.  🙂

“The rain fell steadily upon the big house and the small, the moss-grown shingles of the corncrib, the corrugated tin of the barn. It fell with a steady roar into the depths of the woods and thrashed the gray waters of the pond. It sent rivulets into the bolt -hole of the groundhog, the den of the fox, the burrow of the field hare.”
