Death In the Stocks by Georgette Heyer

Who murdered Arnold? Not only did someone murder the poor man, his body was left in the stocks. There are several suspects ~ Kenneth, Rudolph, Leslie, Violet and Giles. Even though Giles is an attorney, I didn’t rule out Giles. They all have motive. According to all reports, Arnold was not a pleasant man, but who wanted to murder him? Inspector Hannasdye does not have an easy time investigating this mystery. The suspects babble on and on and on. Yes, there is a considerable amount of senseless talk in the story ~ such chatter! It takes a talented author to keep up with all that talk! There are a couple of surprises in the story and the plot is good. And! In spite of all the chatter, I did like the book. I liked the characters too. All of them. When the killer is revealed, I was not surprised. Goodness, nothing would have surprised me. 4**** stars.

The Coffee Club Mysteries ~ Collection of Short Stories

Publication Date: February 1, 2019

Publisher: Barbour Publishing, Inc.

Complimentary Copy from Barbour through NetGalley.

This is a collection of six faith based mysteries from six different authors. All the mysteries involve the same friends who investigate and solve the mysteries. The stories are clean, no profanity and well written.

1st story ~ Coffee, Tea or Murder by Cynthia Hickey

Morgan Butler owns the coffee shop in the small town where she lives. She contacts the local handyman, Billy Bob Rankins, because she needs a new sign for her business. He orders the new sign, however, when he comes to the coffee shop to replace a lightbulb on the old sign, a temporary fix until the new sign arrives, he unexpectedly falls to his death.

It was a good whodunit short story. It did keep my attention. 3 *** stars.

2nd story ~ The Honey Hive Mystery by Dana Mentink

Penny Parsons wakes early one dark morning and hears someone walking on the gravel outside her home. After some consideration, she leaves her warm bed and cycles to the nearest neighbor’s house for help. When she arrives, she discovers he has been shot!

This one was suspenseful at times. I enjoyed it. I had three suspects and one of my choices was the killer, however, the murderous fiend was not my first choice. 4 **** stars!

3rd story ~ Chili Con Carne Murder by Candice Prentice

Evelyn Kliff discovers, Kirk Phillips, a church meal organizer murdered in the church! Evelyn’s late husband’s cousin Jonathan, is a suspect. She decides to investigate and solve the murder to help Jonathan. It was a good mystery. I didn’t solve it. 3.5 *** stars!

4th story ~ Nuts for Coffee by Darlene Franklin

It begins with a birthday party and ends with a murder! Jo Anderson is up for the challenge and does some good sleuthing to discover the identity of the killer. 4 **** stars!

5th story ~ In Hot Water by Elizabeth Ludwig

Harper and her friends go antiquing where Harper finds a jade-looking owl at an estate sale which she purchases. As a result of the owl, one problem after another is happening to Harper and her friends. They decide to learn what is so special about this mysterious owl before another incident occurs. 3.5 *** stars!

6th story ~ Nutty As A Fruitcake by Janice Thompson

Jeanine works hard in her bakery, giving whenever she can. It’s Christmas time and she’s baking fruitcakes as a fundraiser for children in Haiti. The money disappears and everyone is puzzled over this distressing thievery. Good story. It kept me guessing. 4 **** stars!

Ramblings And What Not ~ 2019

Hello Peoples! It’s a new year! *throws confetti* I woke up at 5:00 am!!! I’m good. Cortana tells me, it’s -5 degrees outside! Brrr. The high today is 7 degrees and sunny! I feel better already just knowing it’s going to be sunny. *haha* Rick and I decided to watch movies on New Year’s Eve. That’s right.  🙂  We tried to welcome in the New Year with movies! It was to cold to go anywhere. We normally stay home on New Year’s Eve anyway. I chose three (3) movies that had something to do with a New Year!

Still of Meg Ryan and Bill Pullman in Sleepless in Seattle

Sleepless In Seattle (1993)

Annie Reed (Meg Ryan) and Walter (Bill Pullman) are dancing at a New Year’s Eve party!

After The Thin Man New Year's Eve

After The Thin Man (1936)

Nick (William Powell) and Nora (Myrna Loy) attend a New Year’s Eve party. Nick is unknowingly distracted. *haha*

The Lake House (2006)

Kate Forster (Sandra Bullock) and Alex Wyler (Keanu Reeves) discover a magic mailbox that transports correspondence through time.

Yes, we did watch all three films. I kept dozing off and waking up.  🙂  I did finally fall asleep after 11:00 pm. *sigh*

I eagerly await all the adventures the New Year has to offer!
