Man of the World (1931)
William Powell Carole Lombard Wynne Gibson
Lawrence Gray Guy Kibbee George Chandler
Mary Kendall (Carole Lombard) is an American visiting Paris with her uncle (Guy Kibbee) and her fiancé (Lawrence Gray). While in Paris she meets novelist, Michael Trevor (William Powell) and the two fall in love. However, Michael is also a blackmailer and he’s using her to get to her uncle. He was quite the con man, a perfect gentlemen to all appearances. I don’t think Michael intended to fall in love with Mary. Mmmm.
I like Carole Lombard. Do you remember, My Man Godfrey (1936). I think she’s adorable. Her character was innocent in Man of the World, probably a little naïve.
And. Of course, I think all of us know William Powell as Nick Charles, The Thin Man (1934)! Willian Powell is one of my favorite classic actors! He looks great in a tuxedo too! 🙂
The ending, to this film, was a surprise to me. It was abrupt and Mary and Michael didn’t live happily ever after.
