The Olympics are coming ~ very soon. The Superbowl is coming! And! Valentine’s Day will soon be here. I like Valentine’s Day.❤
This is certainly a Gothic romance, and a good one! Vivaldo and Ellena are in love and want to marry, however, his family opposes the match. Vivaldo’s mother, the arrogant, scheming, manipulative Marchesa plots with the confessor Schedoni to end the life of the lovely Ellena. Schedoni is one nefarious, diabolical man. When Ellena is kidnapped, Vivaldo and his servant Paulo search vigorously for the lady.
Paulo was my favorite character. He is a happy-go-lucky sort of guy, with a song in his heart and a smile on his face. I don’t think he ever stops talking and he is fiercely loyal to Vivaldo.
The author takes us on a journey through the lush, picturesque mountains of Italy, into the tunnels of a monastery and the dark, evil chambers of the Inquisition in Rome. His love for Ellena and concern for her safety always on his mind. This author certainly knows how to keep the reader turning pages, always wanting to know if evil horrors await the characters in the story and if they will escape the dread. There is plenty of atmosphere and ghostly apparitions are mentioned throughout.
I love Ann Radcliffe. I’ve read three of her books, The Romance of the Forest,The Mysteries of Udolpho and now The Italian. I really don’t have a favorite. They were all great! If you enjoy Gothic, I highly recommend The Italian or any of Anne Radcliffe’s books. 5 ***** atmospheric stars!
Hello Peoples! Brook had a fun blog post yesterday and I thought I would jump in and give it a try. You can find her at the link below. She has a great blog! Go take a look, stay a while. Enjoy!
If I Owned A Bookstore ~
Bookstore Name ~
Mmm. I would probably go with something simple, like, Kathy’s Book Shop!
My Awesome Photography
The Location ~
Kathy’s Book Shop would be in a medium size town, on a quaint little street with lottsa flowers in the spring and summer and charming old-fashioned streetlamps. The street would also have a deli, coffee shop, tea shop, bakery, and a paper shop. I like paper.
The Outside ~
The door would need to be a deep blue! Blue is my favorite color. A large window with a fun display. And! Dark wood for the front of the shop. And! Flowers.
On The Inside ~
Gleaming hardwood floors. I would sell used books, so I would have a special area with stacks and stacks of used books. Plenty of lights and twinkle lights. Dark wood shelves for books. Decorative and fun paper items hanging from the ceiling. A carpeted area with cushy overstuffed chairs to sit for hours and read. A card table with a jigsaw puzzle in progress for everyone to participate the putting together. An area for with tea, coffee and hot chocolate.
My Awesome Photography
The Vibe ~
Calm but fun.
The Workers ~
I would choose people who love to read!
The Music ~
Quiet, easy listening music.
Now It’s Your Turn ~
What is your fictional bookstore? I would love to know.
Hello Peoples! The high today is 39 degrees! I might just do the dance of happy! Unfortunately, I can’t dance, I😁 sway. The temperatures are warming up over the next seven days. That’s right 7 days of warmer!
Someone is coming to take our sofa away today. We ordered a new sofa about ten days ago and the new one will arrive Friday or Saturday, so out with the old, in with the new.
We had a HUGE hawk in our backyard a few days ago! He is creepy and bold. He perched himself on the back of our bench. How rude! I do not like him. I walked away to do something when I returned to our window, he was chasing a squirrel. I am happy to say, the squirrel escaped.
Hello Peoples! Today is Top Ten Tuesday sponsored by Artsy Reader Girl. This week: Authors I’ve Read For The First Time In 2021! I’m not listing them in any particular order. The books I read, weren’t necessarily released in 2021. Here we go ~
Betsy St. Amant
Deb Richardson- Moore
There you have it. I’m staying home all day. It is cold outside. Right now, it’s -6 degrees. It’s feels like -15! We are in a wind chill advisory. Brrrr.⛄
Texas Ranger Brett Tucker has been after that nefarious criminal Frank Foster for a long time. When Brett discovered Frank was getting married at the church in Haywire, he rode like the wind to stop the wedding, arrest the man and save the poor woman who was Frank’s bride. When he arrives at said church and stops the wedding, he discovers he has the wrong man!
Cowboy Charm School is a cute romantic comedy! I chuckled my way through this story. Brett is a good guy and wants to do the right thing. So! He has a plan to reunite the bride and groom. Hilarity ensues!
Kate Denver, the bride, along with her aunt, own the candy shop. The candy shop is a nice setting for the story and Haywire is a great name for the western town! The aunt wants the wedding rescheduled right away. However, Kate doesn’t like the groom’s ridiculous reaction to Brett’s mistake. So, Kate calls off the wedding forever. As my neighbor was known to say, never in all my born days!
You guessed it; things don’t go as planned. As Brett spends time with Kate, he develops tender feelings for her.
There is a mystery in the story. Disappearing outlaws, a likable Texas Ranger and a female protagonist with pluck and a whole lotta chuckles. 4 **** funny stars!
Hello Peoples! I hope you are warm and cozy. Yesterday I slept all afternoon! When I woke, I was surprised ~ to say the least. I was reading my book. Rick was watching a movie. I put the book down to watch the movie with Rick and the next thing I know, I’m waking up.
Frio/Freddo/Froid/kalt ~ in any language it’s COLD! It’s 12 degrees. Brrrr. I don’t have anywhere to go or anything to do, so, I will remain in our warm, cozy home.
